Dopey<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Animator <a href=\"https:\/\/snowwhitemuseum.com\/about-the-film\/main-titles\/arthur-babbitt\/\" title=\"Arthur Babbitt\">Art Babbitt<\/a> recalled taking <strong>Les Clark<\/strong> to the Follies Theater in Los Angeles to see a burlesque show featuring <a href=\"https:\/\/snowwhitemuseum.com\/about-the-film\/the-cast\/eddie-collins\/\" title=\"Eddie Collins\">Eddie Collins<\/a>, whose walk struck them as perfect for the dwarfs\u2014especially <a href=\"https:\/\/snowwhitemuseum.com\/about-the-film\/the-cast\/dopey\/\" title=\"Dopey\">Dopey<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Indeed, <em>The Billboard<\/em> of May 18, 1935, notes that Eddie Collins was then finishing his third year at that theater, performing alongside Joe Yule, the father of Mickey Rooney.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After filming him with a 16mm camera without asking permission, the animators shared their discovery at the studio. The veteran performer was then officially brought on as <a href=\"https:\/\/snowwhitemuseum.com\/about-the-film\/live-models\/dwarfs-live-models\/\" title=\"Dwarfs Live Models\">a live-action model<\/a> and filmed reference footage for the animators. His talent was well appreciated, particularly by <a href=\"https:\/\/snowwhitemuseum.com\/about-the-film\/main-titles\/wilfred-jackson\/\" title=\"Wilfred Jackson\">Wilfred Jackson<\/a>, who even mentioned him during <a href=\"https:\/\/snowwhitemuseum.com\/about-the-film\/the-story\/production-documents\/story-conference-of-11-10-1936-personalities-of-the-seven-dwarfs\/\" title=\"Story Conference of 11\/10\/1936: Personalities of the seven dwarfs\">the November 10, 1936 meeting on the dwarfs\u2019 personalities<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After the film\u2019s release, Eddie Collins was featured in the press, most notably in a lengthy article titled <em><a href=\"https:\/\/snowwhitemuseum.com\/merchandising\/press\/american-press\/movie-mirror-magazine\/\" title=\"Movie Mirror Magazine\">\u201cThe Dramatic Life and Death of Dopey\u201d<\/a><\/em>, which included his photo and told the story of how he was discovered.
