Unlike for their subsequent production Bambi, no live animal seems to have entered the studio to inspire the animators even though Snow White has many animal friends and that they play a key role several times in the story. They remain rather cartoony although not as badly drawn as the animators judged, when they later compared in hindsight their work with Bambi.
However, three dimensional models were made of some of the creatures, along with the dwarfs. The Character Model Department, headed by Joe Grant was later developed and became a standard for Disney productions.
