Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs Clear-Type Press Book (Collins) 1938

For the kiddies

This book was released in Great Britain in 1938, alongside the film’s initial release. It was printed by London & Glasgow’s Collins Clear-Type Press and published by Williams Collins Sons & Co. Ltd. No author or illustrator is credited in this 78-page volume.

Although it appeared at the same time as another Collins title of similar length, this edition was clearly intended for younger readers, with its large “Clear-Type” print. Unlike the other version, it contains no trace of the film’s deleted scenes. The final page, following the story, features an advertisement for a Snow White card game distributed in Great Britain.

In terms of presentation, the illustrations give the book a more modest feel. Most are in black and white, with some highlighted in red. The cover appears to have been created specifically for this edition. There is also a striking full-color illustration inserted between pages 42 and 43; although it matches the book’s format, it is printed separately and not included in the pagination, making it stand out from the rest of the volume.
