Born Marcelo Ventura on March 14, 1901 in Valparaiso, Chile (to Beno Ventura, Spanish, and Marianne Ventura, Chilean), he died on January 2, 1984 in New York. He first came to the United States in 1925, then divided his time between Barcelona and America. He was naturalized on May 13, 1938, just after his experience dubbing Snow White (and officially changed his name just before in February), at the age of 37. He also worked in foreign affairs for the Spanish government: he was Barcelona’s representative in New York when it organized the international organization in 1929.
His screen appearances are rare and poorly documented. However, he did appear in the French version of Ernst Lubitsch’s The Merry Widow, starring Maurice Chevalier, as well as in Klondike Annie, starring Mae West, for whom he was secretary in the early 1930s.
The Prince
He directed and distributed the film’s dubbing, taking on the role of the Prince. He was hired because he was a polyglot radio producer (He spoke English, French, Greek and Spanish).
