On July 9, 1937, Phil Dike wrote to Walt Disney to recommend artist Gustaf Tenggren for illustrating the project of publishing the Snow White story in Good Housekeeping magazine. Dorothy Ann Blank, a scriptwriter for the film, was assigned to write the text.
The story was published in two parts in the November and December 1937 issues. Later, Hearst Magazines Inc. reprinted it as a 16-page booklet, featuring a yellow cover reminiscent of the design of the J-8 soundtrack.
