Ben’s boy
Lou Debney was director Ben Sharpsteen‘s assistant on Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. In this capacity, one of his tasks was to help direct the filming of reference footage for Sharpsteen’s sequences, including the witch’s escape.
Apparently, Debney was nicknamed “Whitey,” but it is unclear whether this was because he sometimes wore white pants or because of his blond hair. He began his career as an cutter on Two-Gun Mickey.
Not only did he become a successful producer at the studio, notably for Zorro, but he is also the father of John Debney, a famous composer who has worked several times for the Disney studio (Hocus Pocus, The Emperor’s New Groove, Chicken Little,…)
