This large format hardcover book was released in the United States in 1937 by Harpers & Brothers. Soon, the second printing was taken over by Grosset & Dunlap. The book is also adapted in Great Britain with another cover by Collins. It was reprinted by Harry n. Abrams Inc. in 1987 for the 50th anniversary of the film. According to the original Campaign book, this book sold for $2.00.
The Illustrations
The illustrators are not credited, but on August 7, 2025, Heritage Auctions sold several preliminary drawings from Disney artist Manuel Gonzales, who had joined the studio in 1936 as an inbetweener and publicity artist. His work shows that some of the drawings were originally planned on different pages. Most of his drawings seem to be inspired by the ones Tom Wood made for the publicity stills and indeed it seems that Tom Wood’s style was retained for the final version. Most of the illustrations in this book will be reused in all media in more or less adapted versions through the decades.
