A Franco-British record
This disc features French-language recordings of the songs “Heigh-Ho” and “Whistle While You Work,” performed by Adrien Lamy, who later also narrated the well-known Snow White story album (OLA 2782–2785). He is accompanied by accordionist and orchestra leader Maurice Alexander.
Although the record’s content is entirely in French and the labels are mostly in French, it clearly states that it was “made in England” by Columbia Gramophone Co. Ltd., London, E.C.1. According to the DAHR database, the recordings were made in Paris on May 16, 1938, under matrix numbers CL6705 and CL6706.
It is unclear if the disc was actually sold in Great Britain.
A newspaper advertisement published in France on October 15, 1942 (page 4) lists this record (MC 3215) among Maurice Alexander releases, confirming that it remained available in France several years later—well after the peak of the film’s initial success and even after the death of its main performer.
