Actors and singers lent their voices to bring the characters to life.
Certain sound effects, onomatopoeia, human or animal cries were interpreted by actors or other employees of the studio like Thelma Boardman whose names are not part of the main members of the cast, which were not mentioned on the credits anyway. For example, it seems to be with the voice of Virginia Davis, who played Alice in Walt Disney’s first series of shorts, that Snow White screams through the forest. The evil laughter heard when the queen prepares her potion is that of Clarence Nash, the voice of Donald Duck, who also “played” the owl in the forest, whistled for a bird, and can be heard when the dwarfs all talk together. These same dwarfs sing their famous “Heigh Ho” melody with professional singers’ voices instead of actors.
