Before the production of Snow White, Grim Natwick remembered that Jack Campbell was his assistant. On Snow White, Campbell animated Snow White, working in both Hamilton Luske’s and Grim Natwick’s teams. Some of his scenes are among the most beautiful close-ups of the Princess
According to historian Didier Ghez, Jack Campbell designed propaganda posters during WWII at Douglas Aircraft and created Tokyo Kid. That suggest he may have been released from his contract at the Disney studio at least temporarily, probably between 1942 and 1945. He worked on many Disney productions after that for about ten years (Peter Pan, Lady and the Tramp, Sleeping Beauty) and ended his career at UPA on the feature film 1001 Arabian Nights.
He was my assistant. He wanted to animate and I wouldn’t attempt to stop him. Jack and I used to bowl together and do everything else together. We were pretty close friends.
